Sun, Champagne & Slightly Questionable Dance Moves

Cannes - and the French Riviera as a whole - is one of my absolute favourite places to visit and photograph. Once a year I swap my usual tacos and cheap beer for oysters and a glass of champagne, and head to the South of France to soak up that soft, warm evening light that feels completely unique to this part of the world. It’s the kind of glow that makes everything feel a bit cinematic - like you’ve accidentally wandered onto a film set where everyone is better dressed and slightly more attractive than real life.

Here’s my run down of the best venues in and around Cannes, plus a few top tips for planning a wedding in this wildly beautiful corner of the world.

If I were planning a wedding here, these are the venues I’d be obsessively bookmarking at 2am - so grab something cold & bubbly, pretend you’re already on the Riviera, and let’s get into it.

The Venues (aka the main characters)

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild wedding photographer

Website: https://www.villa-ephrussi.com

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is pure, unapologetic extravagance. Perched above the sea with nine (!!) themed gardens, it’s giving luxury meets chic. You can literally wander from a Japanese garden to a rose garden mid-cocktail hour, which feels mildly ridiculous in the best way. If you want your wedding to feel like a lavish art film with outfit changes and champagne towers - this is it.

Bastide du Roy wedding photographer

Website: https://en.bastide-du-roy.com/

Bastide du Roy is the definition of understated Riviera cool. Historic, romantic, but not trying too hard (which is the dream, honestly). Think olive trees, stone walls, and gardens that were clearly designed for long dinners that spiral into dancing under the stars. Effortless, stylish, and just the right amount of chaos by midnight.

Domaine du Mont Leuze wedding photographer

Website: https://www.montleuze.com/

Domaine du Mont Leuze sits high above Nice with panoramic views that will make your guests audibly gasp (and immediately pull out their phones). It’s peaceful, tucked away, and feels like your own private world for the day. Perfect for couples who want that “escape the noise, but still party hard later” energy.

Château de Pradines wedding photographer

Website: https://www.chateaudepradines.com/

Château de Pradines is rustic, relaxed, and full of character. It’s less polished Riviera glamour, more “intimate countryside gathering that accidentally turns into the best party of your life.” If you want something a bit more low-key but still ridiculously beautiful, this is your spot.

Planning a Wedding in Cannes (the practical bits, but make it fun)

Getting there (aka how your guests will arrive slightly overdressed)

The closest airport is Nice Côte d’Azur, which is about 30–40 minutes from Cannes. Super easy flights from the UK (London to Nice is basically a hop, skip, and a G&T), and plenty of direct options from major US cities in summer - or a quick connection via Paris if you’re feeling fancy.

Where everyone will stay (and how boujee it gets)

Cannes has everything from chic boutique hotels to full “we accidentally booked somewhere that feels like a palace.” On average, your guests are looking at around €150–€400 per night depending on how close to the action they want to be (and how committed they are to a sea view).

Best beaches (for pre/post wedding antics)

  • Plage de la Croisette – iconic, a little flashy, perfect for people-watching

  • Plage du Midi – more relaxed, less chaos, great for a chilled afternoon

  • Îles de Lérins – short boat ride, crystal clear water, feels like you’ve escaped reality entirely

Highly recommend scheduling in some beach time - nothing bonds wedding guests like sun, salt, and slightly too much rosé.

Pro tip: hire someone who knows what they’re doing

If you want your wedding to feel seamless (and not like a logistical puzzle), get a planner involved. I had the absolute pleasure of working with CC Weddings & Events at Bastide du Roy in 2024, and they were unreal—calm, creative, and somehow everywhere at once without you noticing. Exactly what you want when you’re throwing a multi-day celebration in another country.

Final thoughts (and a gentle nudge)

Cannes weddings are a vibe. Sun-drenched, a little bit chaotic, very beautiful, and always a good story waiting to happen. If you’re after a Destination Wedding Photographer France, a slightly sunburnt but very happy Cannes destination wedding photographer, or someone who’ll document the whole thing as it actually felt (hi, documentary wedding photographer France), I’m your person.

Also fully available as your English speaking destination wedding photographer France, your 35mm film wedding photographer France, and your “should we do this on Super 8?” enabler (Super 8 videographer France).

If you’re planning something in Cannes or the French Riviera, drop me a message with all the details—the venue, the outfits, the playlists, the late-night snack plans.

I’ll bring the cameras. You bring the sunshine (and maybe a spare oyster or two for me).
