A Tuscan Wedding Weekend at Borgo Il Poggiaccio for Sian & Dan
There are some places that seem to have been designed for slow mornings, long lunches and evenings that stretch effortlessly into the night. Borgo Il Poggiaccio is one of those places.
Tucked away in the rolling hills of Tuscany, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and endless countryside views, Borgo Il Poggiaccio has that rare kind of magic that makes you immediately exhale. It feels timeless, a place where days are measured by glasses of wine, conversations around the table and the golden light that spills across the landscape at the end of the afternoon.
For Sian and Dan, their wedding wasn’t just a single day. It was a whole weekend spent celebrating the people who mattered most.
And honestly, I think that’s one of my favourite ways to experience a wedding.
The best celebrations aren’t just about one big moment. They’re about all the little ones woven around it — the first drinks together, the laughter of old friends reunited, the family members watching quietly from across the room, and all the tiny interactions that make the story uniquely yours.
A Tuscan pizza party under the stars
The celebrations began with a pizza party at sunset, bringing all of their guests together beneath festoon lights as the Tuscan evening unfolded around them.
There’s something wonderfully Italian about a meal that starts casually and somehow becomes the entire evening. Glasses of wine, plates being passed around, conversations flowing between generations and everyone settling into the rhythm of the weekend ahead.
It was the perfect introduction to what was to come: relaxed, joyful and centred around the people Sian and Dan love most.
A wedding day filled with sunshine, family and the Tuscan hills
The following afternoon, the ceremony took place as the light began to soften, with the rolling Tuscan hills creating the most beautiful backdrop.
The late afternoon sun was everything you hope for when photographing in Italy — warm, golden and completely effortless.
But what made the day truly special was that, at the heart of everything, was family.
Their daughter Sophia was the centre of their world, and watching the three of them experience this incredible celebration together was incredibly special. The day wasn’t just about a wedding; it was about marking a new chapter and celebrating the little family they had created.
Those are always the moments I’m drawn towards — the quiet glances, the tiny hands reaching out, the moments that might not make it onto the schedule but end up meaning everything.
Capturing Tuscany through digital, film and Super 8
For Sian and Dan’s wedding, I captured their story through a mixture of digital photography, 35mm film and Super 8.
I love combining different mediums because each one brings something different to the story. Digital photography allows for those immediate, emotional moments; 35mm film adds a softness and texture that feels beautifully nostalgic; and Super 8 captures movement and atmosphere in a way that feels almost like stepping back into a memory.
My approach has always been rooted in storytelling. Before weddings, I worked as a photojournalist documenting stories across South-East Asia, Latin America and Africa, and that instinct to observe and capture honest moments has stayed with me.
The most meaningful photographs are often not the ones you plan. They’re the ones you feel.
An Italian summer evening to remember
The rest of the day felt like the perfect Tuscan dream.
Italian food shared around long tables, Aperol spritzes in the sunshine, a brilliant band playing beside the pool and guests dancing their way into the evening.
The bridesmaids looked incredible in their lemon-coloured ensembles — a beautiful burst of colour against the warm tones of the Italian countryside — and as the sun began to set, we took some time for portraits amongst the landscape.
Those quiet moments away from the celebrations are always some of my favourites. A chance for couples to pause, take a breath and realise: we’re actually here.
A destination wedding I’ll never forget
I feel incredibly lucky that my work allows me to travel to places like Tuscany and document celebrations like this.
Even more special is being able to do it alongside my partner Paddy, who creates all of our Super 8 films. There’s something really wonderful about travelling together, meeting amazing people and creating something meaningful as a team.
Sian and Dan’s wedding was everything I love about destination weddings: beautiful surroundings, incredible food, sunshine, laughter and — most importantly — a room full of people who genuinely adore each other.
Borgo Il Poggiaccio was the perfect setting for a weekend that felt relaxed, joyful and completely full of life.
And I’d happily return tomorrow.
